If you need to use Speedtest, work with your network administrator to make sure the Speedtest IP addresses and port ranges aren’t blocked by your organization’s network security tools. To test whether you meet the basic access requirements for accessing Skytap VMs, use the Skytap Connectivity Checker test instead. This doesn’t indicate that you will have a problem connecting to Skytap. If you fail all of the Speedtest checks, it may be that Internet traffic isn’t allowed over port 8080 on your local network. Speedtest network tests use port 8080, which isn’t required to access Skytap VMs. Generally, this issue is caused when you don’t have network access to the IP addresses or ports used by the Speedtest. Troubleshooting problems with the Speedtest site Issue: All of the tests failed or “Latency test error” If you need additional assistance from your IT desk or instructor, paste the link in your ticket or email. To share your Speedtest results, click Copy Link. If you're using your corporate network, work with your network administrator to optimize your internet connection. For the best experience, see Improving performance during a browser client session. If you have less bandwidth, you may experience performance or connectivity issues. Optimal result: At least 1.2 Mbps for each concurrent browser session with a VM (or 1.5 Mbps per connection if you’re using VM audio)
If you have a high amount of jitter, work with your network administrator or IT help desk to resolve the issue. Generally, this value is used during advanced network troubleshooting. Jitter measures the variation in your connection lower values indicate a more stable connection. To try to improve your latency, see My network has high latency to Skytap. You may be able to use Skytap VMs in this region, but you will likely experience frequent performance issues. For the best experience, see Improving performance during a browser client session.
You can still use Skytap VMs in this region, but you may experience occasional performance issues. You shouldn't experience latency-related performance issues. Your results are displayed at the end of the Speedtest. Interpreting the test results and improving your performance Speedtest measures bandwidth, latency, and other performance monitors. If you don’t have access to either of these, contact your Skytap administrator to ask which region to test against. The region is listed on the environment page or sharing portal page. Speedtest automatically selects the closest region. If you need to test basic connectivity to Skytap VMs, use the Connectivity Checker test instead. This is especially important when there are concurrent connections by multiple users. Your network connection could be unstable if the response time varies greatly for different requests, such as a few milliseconds for some pings but much longer for others.Speedtest is best for testing total bandwidth on your network. The tool will compile the results that you can analyze to determine how stable your internet connection is. The test pings the server frequently and shows the response times for each request so that you can have a sufficient dataset to analyze. The test displays the response time for every ping you make and notifies you when the request time out, indicating that the server is unavailable. In a ping test, your device sends a request to your selected server at regular intervals and records how quickly it receives a response. How Can a Ping Test Help Determine Network Stability? Having learned about ping, let's look at how you can test its stability with the ping test. The lower the ping rate, the quicker the response time means better data transmission between your client and the remote server. Measured in milliseconds, it tells you how long a request takes to reach the remote server and return to your device. Ping refers to the process through which a client (your device) sends a request to a server to retrieve data, and the server returns the data to the client. The tool will test and report information on each of the following items as the section is complete: Network Information: Tests basic network connectivity. After accessing the Network Connectivity Tool, click the Smart Test tab. Let's First Understand What "Ping" Is…īefore running the test, let's break down what "ping" is. How to test Zoom’s connection on your network Test general network connectivity. But how can you know that? Below, you'll find different ways to assess the stability of your internet connection by performing a ping test. Knowing whether your connection is unstable, you can take the necessary steps to stabilize it on time.
